HOUSTON, TX – HCA affiliated West Houston Medical Center’s (WHMC) Chief Executive Officer, Todd Caliva, announced that David Elgarico has been named the facility’s Chief Operating Officer. Elgarico was previously the Executive Director of Ancillary Services at the University of California Irvine (UCI) Medical Center in Orange, California.

Before joining UCI Medical Center, Elgarico served as the Chief Operating Officer for Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas from 2009-2012. Prior to this position, David participated in HCA's COO Development Program where he oversaw the ancillary departments as the Associate Administrator for Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, CA since 2005. He completed his Administrative Residency at HCA’s Trident Medical Center in Charleston, SC in 2005 after he graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina where he earned his Master’s in Healthcare Administration.

“David brings many years of experience and energy to West Houston and I am very excited to have him join our team,” says Caliva.

David is a co-founder and the current Chair of the Asian Health Care Leaders Association (AHCLA), a national organization founded to advance Asians in healthcare leadership.  He also had the opportunity to serve as faculty at the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, on behalf of AHCLA, David gave the invocation at the annual ACHE Diversity Breakfast. He has served as a Panelist Speaker for the South Texas ACHE Chapter and the South East Texas ACHE Chapter.  David also served on HCA's Diversity Council and Planning Committee, a committee aimed at advancing diversity for HCA's 190,000 employees through the development and continual improvement of the Diversity and Inclusion Program. Furthermore, David has served on the ACHE Regents Advisory Councils in California, Texas, and South Carolina. He has served as a Board Member for several organizations representing hospitals and leaders in the communities he has served.

Elgarico and his wife Kim have two children, Gianna and Noah. Elgarico started his role as COO at West Houston Medical Center on September 2nd.
