The HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston College of Medicine Consortium offers tailored curricula to make our residents the best practitioners in their respective field. Our wealth of expertise and resources provide residents with a personalized, innovative evidence-based training; allowing us to champion the practice of medicine for a healthier world.
The HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston College of Medicine Consortium programs are the first true expansion of Houston-area medical training outside of the Texas Medical Center in decades.
This academic partnership is a precursor to the opening of the University of Houston College of Medicine, which will open in 2020. It is just the start of an ever-expanding higher education collaboration between our two powerhouses.
Within eight years, we will have launched several residency programs, and plan to increase the number of participants from the initial 39 to 389 total resident positions by 2025, offering training positions at other hospitals around HCA Houston Healthcare. Our program shares the UH College of Medicine’s goal of preparing culturally competent physicians who are prepared to provide quality care to the under-served populations of Texas.
Our current residency programs, which are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), include:
Our inaugural group of residents are located at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, host to four surgical residents and 20 internal medicine residents, and HCA Houston Healthcare West, the base for five obstetrics/gynecology residents and 10 in family medicine. The residents will also spend time training at HOPE Clinic, a system of local Federally Qualified Health Centers in Aldine, Alief, Sharpstown and west Houston
HCA Healthcare Graduate Medical Education
Upon completion of an HCA Healthcare residency or fellowship, physician trainees will have received an innovative, high-quality experience and have access to employment opportunities at HCA Healthcare facilities across the country. With more than 200 residency programs and 4,000 residents in training, HCA Healthcare is host to the largest GME network in the country; allowing us to turn residents into practitioners in the communities that we serve.
