Thank you for your interest in the Transitional Year residency at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood! We look forward to meeting you and sharing all that our program has to offer.
Our inaugural class began July 2020. During our first year, we have focused on building a solid foundation of core and elective rotations while expanding the elective options available to Transitional Year residents. Kingwood has a strong medical community that will prepare you for the next phase of your medical career.
Our Transitional Year residency program accepts 13 residents each academic year for one year of post-graduate training to prepare them for subsequent residencies in other specialties. The Transitional Year curriculum is tailored to meet all ACGME requirements for PGY-2 advancement in areas such as Anesthesiology, Radiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Radiation Oncology, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation while providing broad exposure to a variety of surgical and medical subspecialties. We have worked hard to develop a diverse didactic curriculum drawing upon evidence-based medicine, USMLE Step 3 review sessions, journal clubs, and the fundamentals of the business of practicing medicine.
The major strength of our program is our collaboration with the University of Houston College of Medicine. This alignment allows for flexibility in clinical settings, faculty development, research support and innovation. Along with HCAs large national patient database, the University of Houston College of Medicine and HCA Houston Healthcare Gulf Coast Education Consortium residents will participate in meaningful investigation, which has the potential to change the way we practice surgery in the future. HCA has a track record of graduating chief residents matching into coveted fellowships; pursuing academic surgery, and private practice both inside and outside of HCA facilities across the country.
Another strength in our program is the relationship between the residents and the faculty. We are all very committed to resident education and training. The faculty and residents work closely together to pursue a collegial and supportive environment.
We are extremely proud to be a part of training the next generation of physicians to care for patients at HCA facilities around the country and for bringing high quality evidence based academic medicine to the community we live in.
We appreciate your interest in our Transitional Year program and look forward to welcoming you to Kingwood.
