HCA Houston Healthcare's Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency is a newly ACGME accredited four-year program accepting 5 residents per year.

As a brand new obstetrics and gynecology residency, we can offer an exceptional training experience combined with the opportunity to become a leader. Our highest goal is to train OBGYNs to be fully prepared and completely confident as they begin a career in the service of women and their families.

The obstetrics and gynecology program is offered at HCA Houston Healthcare West, a well-respected community hospital in the rapidly growing “Energy Corridor” of Houston. This hospital sees approximately 2,500 deliveries a year, and over 600 major gynecologic procedures annually. Additionally, it has a 28 bed ICU and an ER that sees approximately 56,000 visits annually. Starting PGY-2, residents will also rotate at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, which contains the largest maternity care center in Texas, performing approximately 11,000 deliveries annually with every sub specialty of OBGYN well represented.

Residents will also spend time training at HOPE Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a focus on culturally competent care, serving one of the most diverse immigrant and local populations anywhere in the nation.

It is our daily commitment to create a culture of trust, inclusion, and wellness. No matter the extensive resources of a program or its academic pedigree, we believe that nothing in any healthcare organization is more valuable than the people involved. Therefore, it only makes sense to invest in our well-being as individuals and as a group. We make time to do the things that bring us joy, including serving our patients and furthering our education.

OBGYN Residency Program Highlights

Leadership opportunities: Some special features of the program include an emphasis on resident leadership within the program. By empowering our residents to be involved with all relevant committees at the hospital, clinic, corporate and academic levels, they become fully engaged as steak holders and gain extensive education in the non-clinical aspects of medicine.

Research focused: There are also requirements for a scholarly research project, a systems-based quality improvement project, and an advocacy and education rotation, with the opportunity for a wide variety of electives that take advantage of the unparalleled healthcare system in Houston.

OBGYN practice continuity clinic: As a teaching site, Hope Clinic will no doubt prepare you for a career in women's healthcare. Hope Clinic provides care to over 13,000 patients a year, regardless of their ability to pay. Hope clinic also serves a multilingual/multinational patient clientele with staff and providers caring for patients in over 14 languages. The clinic has a multidisciplinary approach and provides comprehensive health care for our patients.

The HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston College of Medicine Consortium offers tailored curricula to make our residents the best practitioners in their respective field. Our wealth of expertise and resources provide residents with a personalized, innovative evidence-based training; allowing us to champion the practice of medicine for a healthier world.
