HCA Houston Healthcare's Surgery Residency is a newly ACGME accredited five-year program accepting 4 residents per year.
Our commitment is to train young surgeons to a high level of competency in clinical and academic surgery and to guide them into becoming professional leaders within their fields of interest. We are extremely proud to be a part of training the next generation of surgeons to care for patients at HCA Healthcare facilities around the country and for bringing high quality evidence based academic surgery to the community we live in.
The major strength of our program is our collaboration with the University of Houston College of Medicine. This alignment allows for flexibility in clinical settings, faculty development, research support, and innovation.
The majority of our rotations occur on the HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, located 20 miles north of downtown Houston. This location provides much needed access to care for over 1 million people whom call this region home. HCA Houston Kingwood has advanced cardiovascular care, is a comprehensive stroke center, thriving general and oncology surgery coverage and is in pursuit of level 2 trauma verification. Plans include developing a robust EMS program and eventually providing level 1 trauma coverage to the north and eastern counties surrounding Houston, Texas.
Our residents also rotate to HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress with access to a busy minimally invasive and hepatobiliary service and HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake for pediatric surgery.
