Education and support groups

At Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, we offer a number of classes and support groups to help our patients prepare and cope with their medical conditions. This ranges from childbirth preparation classes to support groups for those who have suffered a stroke or have been diagnosed with cancer.

Hospital tours

  • Offered Free - registration is required. (Tours are around 45 minutes)
  • Tours are included with Lamaze and Sibling classes

Hospital tours include a general visit to Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery. We are only able to show empty patient rooms, so if our census is high, you may not be able to view a room. This tour is for ADULTS ONLY. If you would like to attend a tour with your child(ren), please refer to the Sibling Class. Space is limited, so it is necessary for each individual who will attend to be registered.

Tour size is limited, so please register well in advance.

Time: Saturdays 12:00pm - 1:00pm (Approximate end time, tours are around 45 minutes)

Tours start by Admitting & the fish tank in the Main Hospital.

First Steps Early Pregnancy Class & Tour - Newly pregnant to 16 weeks

  • 2 hour class, no charge

Bringing your baby into the world is a special time filled with the hopes and dreams of a beautiful life together.

At HCA Houston Clear Lake, we offer the First Steps Tour for newly expecting parents. This tour is tailored to those parents who are less than 16-weeks' gestation.

Come experience a behind-the-scenes look at our miracles in the making. Allow us to celebrate this special time with you and your family.

Come and meet with our Certified RN who will lead you on your First Steps Tour and provide you with individualized attention on your pregnancy journey.

Time: Saturdays 9:00am - 11:00am | Weeknights 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Prepared Childbirth/Lamaze - "All in One"

  • 6 week series, $120 per couple
  • This class includes Baby Care and Breastfeeding
  • Taught by Certified Childbirth Educators and Registered Nurses

6 week series covers: integrated information on pregnancy, preparation for and coping with labor, birth, hospital practices, induction/augmentation, medications, epidurals, cesarean birth, baby care, breastfeeding and postpartum. Our hands-on approach to teaching Lamaze techniques will enhance your learning experience as you practice relaxation and massage skills during each class.

  • Includes: hospital tour, book and written materials.
  • Please wear comfortable clothes and bring 2 pillows.

Time: 7:00pm - 9:15pm

Prepared Childbirth/Lamaze Class - Saturday Blitz

  • 1 Day "Saturday Blitz", $90 per couple
  • Baby Care and Breastfeeding classes are not included in the Blitz class.
  • Taught by Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educators and Registered Nurses

This one day, fast-paced alternative to a traditional full weeknight series may be just what you need to fit your busy schedules. Covers: integrated information on pregnancy, preparation for and coping with labor, birth, hospital practices,

induction/augmentation, medications, epidurals, cesarean birth and postpartum. Lamaze techniques are taught, but practice is limited in this compressed class.

Includes: hospital tour, book and written materials. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring 2 pillows.

Time: 9:00am - 4:15pm (1 hour for lunch on your own)

Baby Care

  • $35 per couple
  • Taught by Registered Nurses.

This class is recommended for all expecting parents. Information on care of the infant, growth, safety, communication, development, feeding options, and early parenting skills. Get "hands-on" experience with newborn dolls.

Time: Saturdays 9:00am-11:30am | Weeknights 7:00pm - 9:15pm

Breastfeeding Basics

  • $35 per couple
  • Taught by Registered Nurses and Trained Breastfeeding Educators

Breastfeeding is recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics for the first year of life. Come learn all the basics of breastfeeding to get baby off to the best start! Partner is encouraged to attend.

Time: Weeknights 7:00pm - 9:15pm

  • Infant CPR and NICU CPR
  • $30 per couple/Current NICU families free.

Taught by Registered Nurses. Learn the American Heart Association's methods for assisting an infant and child in trouble. Also included are household and car seat safety measures so you can protect your child. This is a hands-on class that will prepare you to react with confidence in an emergency. You will understand and practice management of CPR and obstructed airway. CPR for infants (birth to age 1). Includes written materials and CPR book.

Use of American Heart Association materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials do not represent income to the Association.

Time: Weekdays 7:00pm - 9:00pm | Saturdays 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Super Sibling Preparation Class

  • Fee: $15 ($10 each additional child)
  • Taught by Registered Nurses.

The whole family is invited to this one-time special class, which helps prepare children for the arrival of a new baby. Geared to children ages 3-8; your child will find out about babies and the importance of being a sibling. Your child will learn basics of holding, diapering, safety and basic care of the new baby. Specific birth information is not covered. During this class you will tour Labor & Delivery, Newborn Nursery and Postpartum with your child. A parent is required to stay for class. NO AGES UNDER 3 - no exceptions.

  • 2 adults per child allowed.
  • Includes written materials, snack & certificate.

Time: Saturday 9:30am - 11:00am

Stroke support group

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center offers a post-stroke support group on the second Friday of each month. Our support group provides the opportunity for survivors, caregivers and medical professionals to meet, interact and discuss the challenges of coping with life post-stroke. The group meets from 12:30 - 2:00pm. A light lunch is served from 12:30-1:00pm and the presentation is from 1:00-2pm in the Searcy Auditorium. For more information, please call (281) 316-0046.
