Welcome from our Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at HCA Healthcare Houston Kingwood.

Our program was established in 2019 and we are excited to graduate our first class of 20 residents in June 2022. We have seen our program grow and develop, and this has been an amazing journey for both our residents and teaching faculty. Our vision for the next 5 years includes developing new fellowship programs, opportunities for advanced degrees with our academic partner, the University of Houston, and dedicated clinical / research pathways of distinction within our residency.

Mission Statement

The Kingwood Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program’s mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders. As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values, and ideals.

Program Overview

We are proud to offer the Internal Medicine Residency Program, a newly ACGME accredited three-year program accepting 25 residents per year.

The internal medicine program is structured as a 4+1 academic year, where residents participate in four weeks of clinical care to an assigned rotation followed by one full week in the continuity clinic.

Our goal is to produce well-rounded internists that are prepared to practice or continue fellowship training. Our experience is balanced and done in an environment of cooperation, teamwork, and collaboration to produce the best educational and of course patient outcomes.

Residents learn to develop the skills needed to educate others in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In the outpatient setting, supervising faculty initially role model teaching skills when interacting with patients and will ask the resident to demonstrate their teaching skills while the faculty directly observe and provide immediate feedback.

Our faculty are supremely committed to your education. We recognize that your success is our success.

Residents have access to both inpatient and outpatient facilities, clinics and ambulatory centers. In the Internal Medicine Continuity Clinic, residents have access to a wide range of patients with different etiologies and chronic conditions.

Our residency program is offered at HCA Healthcare Houston Kingwood, a full-service, acute care hospital located 20 miles from downtown. HCA Healthcare Houston Kingwood has provided the northeast Houston community with high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for over 25 years.

Residents at this facility have dedicated space and an onsite team to make sure that the program is the best that it can be. We have developed simulation space and expect to have this space up and running again soon.

HCA Healthcare Houston Kingwood is a 400-bed hospital with more than 450 of the region's most talented physicians and over 1,500 employees. For over 30 years, we have consistently enhanced the quality of care our patients receive and continue to grow to meet our community’s needs.

We proudly provide resident physicians with a diverse clinical training experience under the supervision of dedicated faculty and prepare them well for practice, further training in a subspecialty, while enhancing their leadership skills through role modeling and mentoring.
