Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program curriculum
The overarching mission of our OB/GYN department is to serve the gynecologic and obstetric needs of individuals by providing excellent, high quality care, while serving our diverse population by creating a compassionate, warm and welcoming atmosphere that promotes health education and advocacy. The rigorous curriculum offered in our residency program is designed to instill this mission in our residents. Exposure to a wide range of patients with different personal health histories is invaluable in furthering education to meet this mission.
The invaluable time spent in a clinical learning setting is focused on residents being indispensable members of the inpatient and outpatient teams, and is enhanced through four hours a week of protected, structured didactic time.
There are also requirements for a scholarly research project, a systems-based quality improvement project, and an advocacy and education rotation PGY-3, with the opportunity for a wide variety of electives after PGY-2 that take advantage of the unparalleled healthcare system in Houston.
OB/GYN rotation schedule
Our ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited four-year program is offered at HCA Houston Healthcare West. Residents will also spend time at Hope Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), with a focus on culturally competent care. Beginning in PGY-2, residents will rotate at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, which contains the largest maternity care center in the state.
