Intensive care units (ICUs)

When a medical emergency requires critical care, you want specialized healthcare close to home. HCA Houston Healthcare is proud to provide a network of intensive care units (ICUs) in the Greater Houston area—each with advanced technology, expert intensivists and compassionate support staff.

We offer a variety of specialized ICUs for patients who need continuous medical supervision while critically ill, injured or recovering from a life-threatening condition.

We understand every ICU patient’s needs are different. That is why we take a multispecialty, personalized approach to intensive care. The ICU provides a quiet place for patients to rest and recover; therefore, each ICU will have its own visitor guidelines.

Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)

Some babies require specialized care after birth. At HCA Houston, newborn babies who are premature, ill or need extra monitoring will be cared for in our neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). We know it is overwhelming to learn your baby needs to stay in the NICU, but you can be confident your little one is in highly qualified hands.

Neonatologists, neonatal nurses and specialized teams staff our Houston NICUs, and we encourage as much contact with your newborn as his or her condition allows.

Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU)

Your child may be admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) due to a pediatric illness, injury or disorder. Our pediatric specialists have experience treating children of all ages, and we do our best to make your child’s hospital experience comfortable.

Cardiac Intensive Care Units (CICU)

HCA Houston’s cardiac intensive care units (CICUs) provide specialized cardiac care for patients who have had a heart attack, heart surgery, device implantation or other cardiac conditions.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

Critically ill patients who require surgery or are recovering from surgery may be cared for in one of our surgical intensive care units (SICUs). This multispecialty unit combines the critical care of an ICU with the continuous monitoring of pre- and post-operative suites.
