The diagnostic imaging department at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball provides multi-modality imaging services for inpatient, outpatient, operating room and emergency room patients. Diagnostic imaging technology is used to create a clear picture of the structures and functions of the body’s organs and internal systems. These images are used to examine and diagnose certain medical conditions.

The interventional radiology program at HCA Houston Tomball provides diagnostic and treatment options for a variety of conditions, including those that affect the heart and blood vessels, such as a heart attack.
The interventional radiologists at our hospital use advanced imaging techniques to guide them as they perform procedures using small instruments. These procedures are minimally invasive, meaning they require only a small incision. As a result, recovery times are typically short and general anesthesia usually is not necessary.
Our services include, but are not limited to:
- Angioplasty/vascular stenting
- Gastrointestinal procedures
- Percutaneous nephrostomy
- Stent grafts for aortic aneurysm
- Vascular access procedures
Severe back pain caused by osteoporosis can be relieved with a minimally invasive treatment known as vertebroplasty. This treatment, performed by the interventional radiologists, can quickly alleviate back pain caused by spinal compression fractures.
Spinal compression fractures happen when one or more of the vertebrae in the spine collapse. Often this is caused by the bone-weakening disease osteoporosis. The pain from a fracture is often severe, leaving people unable to perform normal activities. While conservative treatment with pain medications can provide relief for some, in cases where surgery is necessary, doctors often recommend vertebroplasty.
During the vertebroplasty procedure, doctors inject sterile cement into the fractured vertebrae. The cement fills the porous spaces in the bones caused by osteoporosis and strengthens the bone, so it's less likely to fracture again.
Unlike traditional open surgery, which may require a lengthy recovery period, patients typically go home a few hours without activity restrictions after a vertebroplasty.
Uterine fibroid embolization
Interventional radiologists at HCA Houston Tomball can perform a minimally invasive uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) procedure. Uterine fibroids are a common problem in women younger than 50 years old. While uterine fibroids generally are not cancerous, they can cause uncomfortable symptoms—such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, pressure on the bowel and bladder and pain during sex.
Treatment objects to relieve these symptoms include nonsurgical option is a UFE, a nonsurgical alternative to a hysterectomy. In UFE, radiologists use a tiny catheter to deliver particles to the uterus that block the blood supply to the fibroids. The procedure treats all fibroids at the same time, eliminating symptoms while leaving the uterus intact.
