NICU

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.

Neonatal services in Conroe, Texas

When it comes to caring for babies born too early or with health conditions, our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is the most experienced in Montgomery County.

At HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, our neonatology team consists of board-certified neonatologists, neonatal-nurse practitioners and expertly trained support staff. In addition to our expert NICU team, your baby will have access to a team of surgeons, cardiologists, endocrinologists, urologists and nutritionists.

Conroe neonatal care services

Our 22-bed Level II NICU provides intermediate care for infants born 32 weeks gestational age or greater or those who require close monitoring or care.

Features of our NICU

If your baby requires extra medical attention, they will go straight from the delivery room to the NICU for monitoring. While some babies stay in the NICU for only a few hours of observation, others may spend weeks or months in our unit receiving specialized care. If your baby needs to be transferred to our NICU or a higher level NICU, HCA Houston AirLIFE provides neonatal transport to specialized facilities with more advanced neonatal care.

While your baby receives one-on-one compassionate care, you will be guided through the process with nurturing support. Infants are cared for in flat, open cribs with warmers or incubators where we monitor heart rate, respiratory rate blood pressure and temperature. Nutrition is provided through IV, tube feeding, bottle feeding or breastfeeding. Families are also a key part of the process, and we want you to be involved in your baby’s care. Infants show improved development with skin-to-skin contact and ample rest. We encourage you to visit, hold and talk to your newborn.

While your child is in the care of our Level II NICU, we provide the following support and services:

  • Breastfeeding support
  • Family-centered unit
  • Maternal fetal medicine
  • Neonatal transport team
  • Parental support
  • Skin-to-skin contact

We are not only committed to the well-being of your baby, but to your personal well-being and peace of mind. Even during this potentially alarming time, we want you to be able to feel confident in understanding our deep devotion to getting your child healthy, happy and ready to go home to your family.

If you are considering delivering at HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, we invite you to tour our women's services facility or find an OB/GYN. In addition, we offer women's health services related to breast health and gynecology.
