Surgical care

At HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center, we offer a range of surgical services to best treat each patient. Our surgical options can be inpatient, outpatient, traditional and/or minimally invasive. We also offer a comprehensive bariatric surgery program. Our surgeons are dedicated to providing top-notch care, and our nursing and support staff maintain your high quality of care before and after surgery.

Outpatient surgery services

Our outpatient surgery services department is a hospital-based outpatient medical and surgical department located on the fifth floor of the South Tower of HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center. This unit offers:

  • A business/admitting area
  • A prescreening area
  • Two pods of rooms for patient care
  • Private and semi-private rooms

Our surgical care serves both adult and pediatric outpatients who are admitted for surgical procedures done under general or local anesthesia. Patients receiving general anesthesia are recovered initially in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) and discharged from the outpatient surgery floor. The outpatient surgery services department is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and fully staffed with registered nurses and nurse technicians.

Anti-reflux surgery

The surgeons at HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center specialize in providing treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disorder, or GERD. GERD is a condition where stomach acids come up from the stomach to the esophagus, this can cause heart burn, chest pain and indigestion. GERD occurs when a person’s lower esophageal sphincter is malfunctioning. Medications for GERD may not always treat all symptoms. Severe GERD can be treated surgically at HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center.
