NICU
The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.

Our team provides your baby with the specialized care they need to transition from the womb to the outside world.
At HCA Houston Healthcare West, we use advanced technology to treat and monitor preterm or ill babies. You can rely on our compassionate specialists to provide the personalized care your baby needs.
NICU care we provide
Your newborn will be cared for by an expert NICU team, consisting of nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians and board-certified pediatric neonatologists who are on call, 24/7. Physical, occupational and speech therapists are also available to monitor your baby's development. If a higher level of care is needed, our NICU team is able to facilitate transports through HCA Houston AirLife to a Level IV NICU.
We are also here for you. Your role in your newborn's recovery is important. We encourage you and your family to be involved in your baby’s care, and to hold, talk to and visit your baby in the NICU, as often as their condition allows. We encourage skin-to-skin contact between you and your child and provide access to a lactation consultant for any breastfeeding support you may need.
While your newborn is in the care of our NICU, we provide the following support and services:
- Breastfeeding support
- Family-centered care
- Neonatal transport team
- Parental support
