We are proud to serve the northwest Houston area with a designated Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) by the Texas Department State of Health Services. Our 22-bed Level III NICU offers treatment for sick or premature babies born from 23 weeks to term of gestation.

Babies who require advanced care provided by the NICU are usually admitted within the first 24 hours after birth. The length of time a baby spends in the NICU depends on the severity of their conditions. Most babies are admitted to our NICU if they are premature, have a low birth weight, experienced difficulties during delivery, or show signs of a problem shortly after birth.

Our NICU has specially trained physicians and support staff, including nurses and specialists, available 24/7 to care for your baby day and night. The hospital's NICU team is also able to facilitate transports through HCA Houston AirLIFE to Level IV NICUs if an even higher level of care is needed.

Acute services for infants include life support, advanced imaging such as MRI and echocardiography, a full range of respiratory support and other services.

While your child is in the care of our Level III NICU, we provide the following support and services:

  • Breastfeeding support
  • Family-centered unit
  • Neonatal transport team
  • Parental support and education
  • Skin-to-skin care and support

In addition to treating mothers and newborns at the hospital, the department is dedicated to providing neonatal and maternal education to the community.

If you are considering delivering at HCA Houston Northwest, we invite you to tour our women's services facility or find an OB/GYN. In addition, we offer women's health services related to breast health and gynecology.

NICU at HCA Houston Healthcare

The neonatal intensive care unit provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.
