Our cancer treatment team
At Sugar Land Cancer Center, patients receive the best care from expert cancer specialists. Our oncology doctors, radiation oncologists and medical physicists have trained at premiere cancer centers across the country.
An experienced nurse navigator serves as a liaison between patients and their medical caregivers, helping guide patients through the treatment process. Patients have access to additional services including nutritional counseling, and when required, translators are available for most languages.
We are dedicated to family-centered treatment plans, and the same team of professionals will care for the patient throughout his or her course of treatment.
While maintaining high standards and principles, our professional staff focuses on one objective: treating both people and their disease.
Our cancer treatment technology
Located in Fort Bend County, the Sugar Land Cancer Center has earned a reputation for its commitment and excellence in radiation oncology therapy, which can effectively treat cancers at various stages of the disease. We provide the technology needed to ensure the highest quality of cancer radiation therapy possible, including the ability to visualize tumor motion; and we have the most advanced equipment to deliver precise and accurate treatment to tumors while sparing nearby healthy tissue.
Our linear accelerator capabilities:
- 3D conformal radio therapy (3D-CRT) delivers shaped beams to the cancer from different directions. Patients are fitted with a mold or cast to keep the body part still, so the radiation can be aimed more accurately.
- Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) generates high-energy X-rays using microwave energy to accelerate electrons, which move close to the speed of light. As the electrons reach maximum speed, they collide with a metal target to release photons. Radiation beams are conformed exactly to the 3D shape of the tumor, and the accelerator rotates around the patient to deliver the radiation treatment from almost any angle.
- Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) with on board imaging (OBI) uses a conventional X-ray system to generate a 3D representation of the patient's anatomy, allowing accurate visualization of skeletal anatomy and the tumor.
Radiation therapy cannot be seen or felt by patients. Sessions take 15 to 30 minutes, and the course of treatment is usually five days a week for four-to-eight weeks.
