John Corbeil
Chief Executive Officer
John Corbeil joined HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood as chief executive officer (CEO) in January 2019. He previously served as chief operating officer of Medical City Fort Worth, an HCA Healthcare affiliated hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, for three years. Corbeil also held multiple executive leadership roles in HCA Healthcare's North Texas Division, including associate chief operating officer at Medical City Dallas, assistant administrator for Medical City Fort Worth, and administrative fellow for the North Texas Division Office. John joined HCA Healthcare in May of 2012.
Corbeil earned both his bachelor's degree in business administration and his master's degree in health administration from the University of Iowa. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Leadership North Texas. He is also a board member of The University of Iowa's College of Public Health and The Lake Houston Chamber of Commerce, which is focused on community involvement, economic development, and city planning.
Ahmad Maarouf
Chief Medical Officer
Ahmad Maarouf, MD, was appointed as chief medical officer (CMO) at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood in October 2022. In his role, Dr. Maarouf is responsible for ensuring high quality, patient-centered care through clinical and quality initiatives that support the provision of consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital.
Dr. Maarouf comes to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood from HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, where he served as CMO and was instrumental in elevating care at the hospital through his close work with physicians and clinical staff. Before his tenure with HCA Houston Healthcare, Dr. Maarouf served in numerous medical directorships and chairmanships with Beaumont Health - Trenton. He has also held positions as clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University and associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Beaumont Health – Trenton. He also served as an advisory board member for LifeGift.
Dr. Maarouf received his medical degree from Damascus University College of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Western Reserve Care System/Forum Health. He completed a nephrology fellowship and a critical care fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Maarouf is board certified in internal medicine, nephrology and critical care.
Adrian Moreno
Chief operating officer
Adrian Moreno was appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood in November 2024. Previously, he served as COO at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball.
During his tenure at Tomball, Moreno demonstrated remarkable leadership, achieving a significant growth in EBITDA from 2021 to 2023. Under his guidance, the hospital implemented effective operational strategies that resulted in increased volume in elective surgery, joint and spine procedures and cardiovascular procedures. Additionally, he grew the bariatric surgery program which led to the hospital achieving a MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center Accreditation.
Moreno is committed to patient safety and quality improvement, which resulted in the hospital achieving a noteworthy 0.00% Surgical Site Infection (SSI) rate in 2023. Additionally, he led initiatives that enhanced employee engagement scores from 81 to 87 over a two-year period. Before joining HCA Houston Tomball, Moreno began his hospital operations career with HCA Houston Kingwood in January 2021 serving as the assistant COO for a brief period.
Moreno served as a battalion engineer operations officer in the Unites States Army during the Iraq War. His military experience has endowed him with exceptional leadership and crisis management skills, which he brings to his role in healthcare. Moreno graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and received his Master of Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.
Virgil Winslow
Chief Financial Officer
Virgil Winslow joined HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood as the chief financial officer (CFO) in May 2016. Previously, he served as the CFO at Texas Orthopedic Hospital from 2014 - 2016. Winslow entered the position of Controller in 2010 at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake before assuming the role of Assistant Chief Financial Officer where he fulfilled the duties of the financial officer on-site at the HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland campus.
Winslow began his 16-year history with HCA Healthcare in February 2000 as Staff Accountant at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, WA. While at Capital Medical Center, he was promoted to assistant controller within 3 months of employment and eventually took on the role of Controller. In September 2005, Winslow and his family made the move to the Houston area where he was offered the controller position at Spring Branch Medical Center.
Winslow graduated from South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, WA where he earned his associates in technical arts degree in computer programming. He then went on to receive his bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Tampa in Tampa, FL.
Darren DeSimone
Chief Nursing Officer
Darren DeSimone, MBA, BSN, RN, was appointed chief nursing officer (CNO) in February 2023. He previously served as interim CNO of HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood. As CNO, he is responsible for overseeing and coordinating each nursing department and its daily operations.
Prior to joining HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, DeSimone worked as director of emergency medicine at HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe. He has over 18 years of nursing experience and started his career with HCA Houston Healthcare as a nurse technician. He went on to serve in various nursing and nurse management positions in emergency services at HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe.
DeSimone earned his nursing degree from Lone Star College and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. He received a Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University. He is a former recipient of the HCA Healthcare Frist Humanitarian Award for his volunteer work in his community as well as in Central America.
