Combining image-guided neurosurgery with MRI capabilities, HCA Houston Kingwood physicians can pinpoint the exact location of lesions in the brain. Patients with vascular malformations and tumors in the brain can benefit from pre-surgical embolization to reduce chances of bleeding during the surgery.
Orthopedic surgeons can provide excellent surgical treatment for many spinal conditions, but only neurosurgeons are trained on procedures related to the spinal dura, which is inside the lining of the spinal canal.
Surgeries for certain disorders and conditions therefore fall under neurosurgery, including spinal cord tumors, nerve root tumors, tumors at the junction of the base of the skull and upper cervical spine, syringomyelia, Chiari malformation, diplomyelia, tethered spinal cord, spina bifida, lipomyelomeningocele and spina bifida.
HCA Houston Kingwood is the only certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in Northeast Houston. In addition, our neurology program is a recipient of the American Stroke Association's Gold Plus and Target Honor Roll Elite and is stroke accredited by the DNV GL Healthcare USA, Inc.
Every eighteen minutes an aneurysm ruptures and 40 percent of those who suffer an aneurysm will die within minutes. Our talented team of neurointensivists, neurointerventional radiologists and neurosurgeons are providing the multiple levels of care needed to detect, treat, and prevent the rupture of brain aneurysms.
If you have a family history of brain aneurysms, talk to your doctor about getting screened. This may include imaging tests such as a CT scan, CT Angiography scan, MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) or a cerebral angiogram.
Treatments include both surgery and interventional techniques, such as clipping and coil embolization.
