About us

Our health network employs 15,000 medical professionals who are committed to providing comprehensive, advanced medical care to more than one million patients across the Houston area.

About HCA Houston Healthcare

Our comprehensive network includes 13 hospitals, nine outpatient surgery centers, 11 freestanding emergency centers and a dozen freestanding diagnostic imaging facilities in the greater Houston area.

Our people and our communities

From Conroe to Texas City, HCA Houston Healthcare serves over one million patients and employs 15,000 people, including 6,900 nurses and 1,800 affiliated physicians. Our employees come from every walk of life but have one thing in common: their dedication to the people who rely on us to provide them the best healthcare available.

Serving such a large and diverse region requires HCA Houston Healthcare to offer a range of programs that meet the needs of people of all ages with conditions ranging from acute to chronic illnesses. We are also nationally recognized for many of our programs, including orthopedics, women's care, weight loss surgery, breast imaging and more, at facilities like The Women's Hospital of Texas, Texas Orthopedic Hospital and other Centers of Excellence.

We have a strong tradition of volunteerism and community outreach. HCA staffers volunteered over 14,000 hours for 192 organizations over 2017-2018. At HCA Houston Healthcare, we provided $2,586,798,767 in charity care, uninsured discounts, and other uncompensated care in 2017.

Our mission and values

Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

In pursuit of our mission, we believe the following value statements are essential and timeless:

  • We recognize and affirm the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual.
  • We treat all those we serve with compassion and kindness.
  • We trust our colleagues as valuable members of our healthcare team and pledge to treat one another with loyalty, respect and dignity.
  • We act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our lives.
  • We foster a culture of inclusion and diversity across all areas of our company that embraces and enriches our workforce, physicians, patients, partners and communities.

HCA Houston Healthcare is a part of HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services.

HCA Healthcare founders Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., Dr. Thomas Frist, Jr. and Jack C. Massey envisioned a company that would bring together hospitals to deliver patient-focused care while using the combined resources of the company to strengthen hospitals and improve the practice of medicine.

The vision they articulated in 1968 was brought to life in their first hospital, Park View Hospital, and continues to guide HCA Healthcare today. HCA Healthcare’s mission and values reflect our tradition of delivering high quality, cost-effective care for our people, our patients and our communities.

From our first year of operation, we have seen the application of scale and shared resources as the way to fulfill HCA Healthcare’s mission because greater scale allows for innovation and advances in care. Today, the company stands at the forefront of the healthcare industry with approximately 179 hospitals and approximately 120 freestanding surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom. We are leaders in clinical research, helping to advance medicine and patient care. Our facilities have more than 26 million patient encounters each year, including eight million emergency room visits.

HCA Houston Healthcare Regional Transfer Center

The HCA Houston Healthcare network also includes a regional transfer center that provides one-phone-call access and support for patient transfers into and out of HCA-affiliated facilities as well as access to ground and air transportation within a 150-mile radius.

Why we're here

We exist to give people a healthier tomorrow.

Better nursing support.

Having a nurse by your side doesn’t just make you more comfortable, it can improve your quality of care.

We’re supporting nurses at every stage of their careers and providing platforms that allow them to strongly advocate for their patients. We’re also investing in new technologies and smarter, more efficient processes that are dramatically reducing paperwork and letting nurses get back to where they want and need to be-at your side.

Because when nurses get to do what they do best, care is efficient, personal and constantly improving.

Better physician partnerships.

At HCA Houston Healthcare, we are not just here for our physicians: We are here because of our physicians.

Patients deserve high-quality, compassionate care and you deserve to have the ability to deliver that care by practicing medicine the way it was intended: patient-centered, purpose-driven and constantly pioneering a healthier tomorrow.

That's why we're are here to partner with physicians. Because we know that facilitating a collaborative healthcare network benefits each patient who walks through our doors.

Better data.

When your caregivers have access to medical data from approximately 30 million patient encounters a year, it means innovative, evidence-based care extends beyond the Texas Medical Center and into Houston area communities.

Our facilities are an integrated healthcare system both locally and nationwide, sharing the largest clinical data management system in the healthcare field.

The pursuit of advancing care based on this medical data has led to the creation of measures that reduce infection, advance cancer research, and help improve pregnancy outcomes and the health of newborns in the communities we serve.

Better outcomes.

Whether you find yourself here for a routine visit or an emergency, we know that excellent physicians and nurses can make all the difference when it comes to getting you home sooner and healthier.

The strength and scale of our nationally integrated network allows us to share best practices across our hospitals, leverage proven results to deliver greater outcomes for our patients and be a more effective healthcare provider to the communities we serve.
