Southeast redesignated as a Texas Ten Step hospital partner
As part of the Texas Ten Step program, HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast aligns with the World Health Organization and UNICEF's Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast is honored to announce its re-designation as a Texas Ten Step hospital from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. This honor was extended through October 2026, based on the hospital’s long-standing commitment to improving maternity care and breastfeeding support for new moms and their babies in southeast Harris County.
As part of the Texas Ten Step program, HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast aligns with the World Health Organization and UNICEF’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. This initiative supports moms and their babies with breastfeeding initiation, breastfeeding exclusivity for a minimum of six months, and the continuation of breastfeeding for a year and beyond.
As a designated partner since October 2024, HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast has improved overall patient breastfeeding rates by implementing evidence-based health care practices such as facilitating early skin-to-skin, and training staff on breastfeeding management. All Texas Ten Step practices are designed to set new moms and their babies up for successful breastfeeding, which helps improve infant health and increases overall patient satisfaction. Studies show that when mothers experience Ten Step practices in the birthing facility, they are more likely to reach their goals of exclusive breastfeeding.
“At HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast, we are deeply honored to be re-designated as a Texas Ten Step hospital,” says Yasmene McDaniel, CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast. “This recognition is a testament to our team's dedication to supporting new mothers and their babies during one of the most important times in their lives. We understand how vital it is for mothers to feel empowered and supported in their breastfeeding journey, and we are committed to providing the care, education, and encouragement they need to give their babies the best possible start. Every mother and baby deserves the best care, and we are proud to be part of their journey toward health and happiness.”
