West names John Mier as new chief nursing officer
HCA Houston Healthcare West announced John Mier, MBA, BSN, RN, as the facility's new Chief Nursing Officer.
Houston, TX – HCA Houston Healthcare West recently announced John Mier, MBA, BSN, RN, as the facility’s new Chief Nursing Officer. Mier brings more than 24 years of nursing experience and a demonstrated history of success in nursing engagement, patient experience, physician collaboration and growth in key service lines to the hospital.
Mier most recently served as Chief Nursing Officer at Texas Orthopedic Hospital (TOH), beginning in 2018. During his tenure, he developed the COVID drive-through testing and vaccination hub for the facility, established the telemedicine programs for behavioral health and infectious diseases, and led the hospital to an advanced certification for Total Hip and Knee through the Joint Commission. Under Mier’s leadership, TOH received HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction awards (2019-2022), Press Ganey’s Guardian of Excellence awards for patient experience (2019-2022), the top RN engagement score in HCA and Becker’s Hospital Review Top Hospital for Nursing Communication and Staff Responsiveness (2023). Before his role with TOH, Mier served as ACNO at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast and was the Director of Intermediate Care, Medical-Surgical, and Telemetry at HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe

Mier received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Phoenix and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
