For the second consecutive year, HCA Houston Healthcare partnered with the Bayou City Art Festival for “HeART for Heroes.” The partnership makes it possible for artists to show their appreciation for our healthcare workers' hard work and dedication.
This year, HCA Houston Healthcare asked local artist Kati Ozanic-Lemberger to create a design that commemorated the COVID-19 pandemic and paid tribute to the grit and perseverance of our healthcare workers.
“We are honored to partner with Bayou City Art Festival and artist Kati Ozanic-Lemberger to provide our community with the opportunity of honoring our healthcare colleagues through this interactive art project,” said Kelli Nations, chief nurse executive at HCA Houston Healthcare. “The HeART for Heroes exhibits the courage, hope and tenacity that our healthcare colleagues have had during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Ozanic-Lemberger and her husband Yolle Lemberger worked together to design, construct and paint a 6 feet by 5 feet wooden heart. Festival-goers had a chance to participate and show off their creative side by painting some of the surrounding hearts.
“My vision was for the artwork to represent the grit, determination and passion healthcare workers endured during this pandemic,” said Ozanic-Lemberger, artist at Bayou City Art Festival. “I used the analogy of climbing a mountain, in the shape of a large heart, to show healthcare workers supporting each other and eventually making it to the other side of this global crisis. The rainbow inside the heart represents the belief that we will get through the global pandemic with the work and determination of our healthcare workers and the support of the communities they care for.”
The Bayou City Art Festival is a 49-year-old iconic Houston event that attracts more than 20,000 people. It celebrates and supports artists, local nonprofits, and has promoted the powerful impact that art has on the Houston community. The two-day event, which is produced by the Art Colony Association, Inc., brings together more than 200 local, regional and national artists, representing 19 different disciplines.
In July of 2020, HCA Houston Healthcare announced the “HeART for Heroes” partnership with the Bayou City Art Festival. Local artists donated their stunning artwork to our hospitals to spread joy, provide comfort and show appreciation for our healthcare colleagues.
HCA Houston Healthcare is grateful for the community members who continue to support and encourage our colleagues. Throughout the pandemic, our colleagues never wavered, rising up to face adversity head on for the sake of our patients and communities.
