Joint care services we offer
We provide joint care services at 11 hospital and outpatient locations throughout the Greater Houston area, led by teams of board-certified orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, nurses, physical therapists and pain management specialists.
Treatments for joint pain
Normal joints are covered by a smooth layer of cartilage, which prevents your bones from rubbing together. Over time, conditions, such as arthritis, serious injury or degenerative joint disease, can wear down the amount of cartilage, which causes pain and the bones to rub together.
Within our specialty areas, we provide access to variety of joint replacement surgeries and treatment options. When more conservative treatments, such as therapy and injections, are ineffective, joint replacement surgery is a viable option. During surgery, the damaged bone and cartilage are removed and replaced with artificial ones. The materials used in joint replacement surgery are designed to allow artificial joints to move just as your own joints would.
These types of surgeries are of particular focus at our Texas Orthopedic Hospital location, one of the only specialty orthopedic hospitals in the nation. As a leader in joint care, Texas Orthopedic Hospital is consistently recognized as a high performing hospital in hip and knee replacement by U.S. News & World Report and is currently ranked number one in Texas for joint replacement surgery by Healthgrades. Our network also includes HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, which is designated as a Blue Distinction Center for knee and hip replacement by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Hip replacement
Across our family of hospitals, we offer advanced minimally invasive joint replacement surgery. For both total joint and partial joint procedures, this includes the use of robot-assisted technology whenever possible, which allows for superior precision and control, as well as a faster recovery. As a designated Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS), HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball is nationally recognized for this advanced surgical capability.
Depending on your condition, you may be a candidate for either a total hip replacement, partial hip replacement or hip resurfacing. The most likely candidates are those with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bone tumors and hip pain that prevents walking, bending or doing daily activities.
Knee replacement
If you have severe knee damage, a knee replacement may be necessary. Following knee replacement surgery, we have seen that you should typically experience dramatic pain reduction.
Shoulder replacement
Whether you’ve dislocated your shoulder, tore a ligament or are experiencing the pain and discomfort of tendonitis, our skilled orthopedic surgeons can help heal your shoulder injuries and get you back to the activities you enjoy.
Steroid injections
Among the most effective methods of pain relief, steroid injections work by reducing the inflammation in and around the joint. They are most often used if you are experiencing rheumatoid arthritis or other types of inflammatory arthritis.
Physical therapy and rehabilitation
Used as a form of treatment following a joint replacement procedure, you are expected to attend physical therapy to help regain full range of motion and minimize pain.
