HCA Houston Healthcare is dedicated to providing our patients with access to leading-edge technology and treatment options, which is why we offer the most advanced technology in robotic-assisted surgery.

We provide robotic surgery programs at 13 HCA Houston Healthcare hospital locations across the greater Houston area. Within our network of care, we are proud to have hospital locations that are designated as Centers of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS). Many of our hospitals have also pioneered the use of robotic-assisted surgical techniques in the communities we serve. We were the first to perform a peripheral lung biopsy using robotic-assisted technology in northwest Houston. Additionally, we were the first to offer partial knee resurfacing using robotic arm technology in the North Cypress area.

HCA Houston robotic surgery services

Robotic surgery, also called robotic-assisted surgery, is an advanced form of minimally invasive surgery where surgeons use a computer-controlled system to assist in surgical procedures. As with traditional surgery, the surgeon is always in control, however, the robot is used as an additional tool to enhance the surgeon's skills to perform many types of complex and delicate procedures with more precision, flexibility and control. As a result, this technique can provide many benefits to patients, including:

  • Earlier release from the hospital
  • Faster recovery time
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Reduced pain and need for opioid pain management
  • Smaller scars

We provide patients with access to surgeons who are highly skilled in using various robotic-assisted surgical systems to perform procedures in various specialty areas. Our surgical operating teams are made up of robotically trained surgeons, anesthesiologists and operating room nurses.

At HCA Houston, we provide advanced robotic programs in many specialty areas, including:

  • Cardiovascular surgery
  • Colorectal surgery
  • General surgery, including gallbladder and appendix removal
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Urological surgery

Robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery

We offer robotic gynecological surgery programs at all HCA Houston locations. Our OB/GYNs have advanced training and experience using robotic systems to treat a wide range of gynecologic conditions such as cervical and uterine cancers, endometriosis, uterine fibroids and uterine prolapse. Our women's care programs offer robotic-assisted surgery to perform procedures such as hysterectomy, myomectomy and salpingectomy.

Robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery

We offer robotic orthopedic surgery programs at seven HCA Houston locations across the greater Houston area, including Texas Orthopedic Hospital. These programs help our surgeons achieve optimal patient outcomes when performing orthopedic surgeries such as total and partial joint replacement surgery, hip replacement surgery, thoracic and lumbar spine surgeries and joint resurfacing surgery.

Robotic-assisted spine surgery

With the latest systems in neurosurgery technology, we provide robotic-assisted neuro-spine programs. Our surgeons have the ability to perform minimally invasive spinal surgery and other procedures to address particular neurologic conditions in a safer, faster and more effective way.

Robotic-assisted surgical oncology

Within our network, we offer robotic-assisted surgical treatments closer to home to treat many types of cancers, including colorectal, esophageal, lung, pancreatic, prostate and thyroid.

As part of our services, we also offer robotic bronchoscopy or minimally invasive lung biopsy. The robotic-assisted bronchoscopy helps improve the early detection of lung cancer by enhancing access to hard-to-reach areas of the lungs.

Robotic-assisted weight loss surgery

Our nationally accredited Redefine Clinical Weight Loss Programs provide minimally invasive approaches to bariatric surgery. This includes robotic-assisted approaches to gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy procedures for eligible bariatric surgery candidates.
