Learn how Redefine helped Gabriel choose his weight loss path and overcome his health issues, so he could dance again.
“All the extra weight was taking a toll on my body and my soul. Not only was it causing sleep issues, dangerous high blood pressure and damaging my joints, it took me away from the activity I loved — dancing. Redefine helped me choose my weight loss path and I haven’t looked back. Now, if you’ll excuse me, they’re playing my song.”
— Gabriel, Redefining the rhythm of life
What were your reasons for taking the leap to weight loss surgery?
I had all kinds of health issues like sleep apnea, narcolepsy, high blood pressure, prediabetes, knee and shoulder surgeries. With sleep apnea, I was so tired and at work with gear. It was so much on my body. I couldn’t run anymore like I did in college and in the army and wanted to run again. I was talking to my cousin about his weight loss surgery and he said he felt like a million bucks and told me to do something for myself. I wanted to dance again and play with my sons.
What was the biggest life change for you after gastric bypass surgery?
Feeling good about myself. I sleep better and have more energy. I can go country dancing with my girlfriend a lot more now.
Since surgery, what have you been most proud of?
Being able to stick with it. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to eat what I wanted to and learned how to navigate things like eating sugar.
If you could share one thing with a potential patient thinking about taking the leap to surgery, what would it be?
Just go for it! If you are contemplating it, it’s time. It’s been good for me, but you must be prepared for it — it’s a life changer. Talk to your doctor and support group for help. All of the resources were in the same location and that was so helpful.
